This was the final date on the BonJovi UK 'One Wild Night Tour 2001' with Delirious? performing in the first support slot of the evening. I've been to quite a few d: gigs over the years but none like this one. There is always an excited buzz amongst the d: crowd and even in a huge crowd of mainly Jovi fans that same buzz was present. In such a huge modern venue, with a massive stage, this was one of the most impressive settings Delirious? have ever performed at. From the moment Stu G opened the gig with 'Bliss', a Welsh stadium full of rock fans cheered, sung, jumped and clapped their way through 30 minutes of energetic rocking and rolling.
Next up was the latest song to leave the safety of the studio and the next single to be released,'Take Me Away' and it ROCKED! Definitely a new favourite in the making. A brand new funkier version of 'Deeper' (with added Tim Jupp keyboard sections) saw Martin get up close and personal with the die-hard BJ fans. At the end of the song Martin took the opportunity to introduce his fellow band members to the Cardiff crowd, before 'My Glorious' received the loudest applause yet. A slowed-down version of 'Hang On To You' and a superb 'Heaven' led into the highlight of the evening. I felt a sense of pride and awe as I watched the d:boys perform 'History Maker' with the hairs on the back of my neck standing to attention through out.
The set finished with the current single 'Waiting For The Summer' which sounded even better live than it did when Radio 1 played it the previous Sunday! The Littlehampton-Five definitely made some new friends and fans this evening. Oh yeah and BonJovi weren't bad either!
