Delirious? Top 20 In German Mainstream Charts

Here's the story so far. Back in December 2003 the band were signed as part of a label deal with J-Star Records (part of owned by BMG). The German crew noted the tone, texture and general rat-a-tat-tat of the band's latest album, in infinitely loveable 'World Service'. The leftfield bruiser known as 'Inside Outside' stood out, according to boss Ralph Schroeter, as fitting '100% with the German mainstream radio'.

Pre-releases were arranged, promos sent out and the loving began. First week radio figures put the track into the top 100 airplay charts. To the British boys this was nothing to get excited about. To the Germans, the signals meant something slightly different: imminent success on a massive scale.

"It seems," says Tony Patoto (Delirious? Manager) , "that the German charts are pretty much where the UK scene was twenty years ago. Releases work slowly up the charts rather than entering high and gradually slipping down like they do over here."

It wasn't just Ralph and the crew who were keeping an eye on the progress of 'Inside Outside'. Within weeks the single and album had been pushed right to the top of the class: number one on the SWR3 chart, rotation every 30 minutes on Vivaplus, album of the week at station NDR2, album of the week at N-Joy and a feature in German Rolling Stones Magazine. No matter how bad your German, that's zehr gut and no mistake.

And so here we are today, celebrating the release of the single, which tipped the radio charts last week at number 19: another cause for huge celebrations at J-Star and another lesson to learn for us Brits. As Ralph says, 'this is unheard of for a newcomer'.

Of course, the band are going to be spending a little time over there. First up was a gig at the prestigious Atomic Club in Munich on March 16th, were over 100 top industry and media people traveled from all over Germany. Rest assured that we'll keep you up with all the latest developments.
