Delirious? To Play In Morocco For The First Time
Last modified: 25 Feb 2005
Delirious? have announced that they will be performing in Morocco for the first time ever this May. The band will travel to the city of Marrakech on 8th May to perform at the Friendship Festival, alongside artists such as Newsboys, Jeremy Camp, Stacie Orrico and the Rock N' Roll Worship Circus. The free outdoor festival will be held just outside the beautiful gardens and old walls of Marrakech.
Morocco, located in Northwest Africa just south of Spain, is a 99% Muslim country and the Friendship Festival is part of a broader initiative to promote cross-cultural dialogue between Christian and Muslim religious leaders in the country. Festival organisers say:
"This is truly a historic event that has the potential to affect world events. The goals of the event are to use the universal language of music to bridge cultures and make friends. It will set a good example of religious tolerance by engaging in respectful dialogue and by confronting stereotypes on both sides that lead to extremist rhetoric. By loving our neighbors as ourselves, Christians and Muslims can be friends and live together in peace."
Delirious' appearance at the festival in Morocco this May will come as part of an exceptionally busy month for the band. They will be performing in five different countries in May (Germany, Holland, Morocco, Canada and USA) including three countries in the space of three days. Delirious? will again be appearing at Germany's Himmelfahrt Festival (5th May) and MaiDay Festival (6th May) as they did in 2004. They will then travel to Barneveld in Holland (7th May) before flying on to Morocco on 8th May. Then on 20th May the band starts a week long tour in North America with five dates in Canada (20th to 27th May) ending with a performance at the Spirit West Coast Festival in California USA on 28th May.
