Delirious? Join The Route Of Kings
Last modified: 02 Jul 2002

Artist: Delirious?
Label: Furious Records
Date: 02 Jul 2002

Look hard enough and you'll figure out that everyone's got a little of the Delirious about them. And right now it seems that Bryan Adams has got in touch with his. The South Coast's biggest thing since Bognor have been invited to join the Canadian rock legend on the three dates that form his leg of this summer's Route of Kings tour.

'This is a serious privilege,' says Martin Smith 'and one of those opportunities that have to be jumped on as soon as they come along.' Not only were Delirious blown away to be invited, but on unpacking the detail of the request they were doubly impressed to find out that they'd been given the prestigious 'special guest' slot. More than making an early show to get the crowd warmed up with a handful of numbers, the five-piece will be sinking their teeth into some hefty exposure.

'We're taking our whole Fire Tour out with us for these three dates' says manager Tony Patoto. That means the full video experience that only last month got people up and down the country a little over excited on the band's own national tour will now be raising eyebrows of tens of thousands of music fans at the end of July. From the kickstart of the intro sequence to the bottled euphoria of History Maker, the visuals have become an integral part of the Delirious experience: just imagine what the vibe will be like in Hyde Park and the rest.

Of course you don't have to be some kind of Delirious anorak to know that this type of exposure is nothing new for the boys. Having played Glastonbury mainstage in 1999, they joined US rock gurus Bon Jovi on stage in 2001, warming up in excess of 250,000 fans on the band's massive UK tour. They also led the jubilee celebrations last month in their home town of Littlehampton, delighting a crew of over 11,000 with a range of songs embossed with their trademark live passion and creativity. Yet this Route of Kings tour - the opportunity to share the stage with not only Mr Adams but Rod Stewart and UB40 - is fresh and open-ended chapter in the already intriguing epic that is the story of Delirious.

The three dates are:

19th July, Leeds Millennium Square
20th July, London's Hyde Park
21st July, Cardiff Castle

Tickets are available through the usual outlets.
