Delirious? drummer Stew Smith is hoping to raise £10,000 for charity when he competes in his first Ironman Triathlon event this summer. Stew says he is currently spending 25 hours each week training for the race.
"I've been building up to the big one for 9 months of pretty solid training, getting up six mornings a week at 5am for a run or a swim."
The Ironman Triathlon takes place at Sherbourne in Dorset (UK) on 20th August and involves a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a full 26.2 mile marathon.
"It frightens the life out of me" admits Stew about the prospect of the 140 mile race. He says that anyone is welcome to go and watch, admission is free and he adds
"I should be finishing around 4-6pm all being well, with a following wind!" Stew hopes to raise money for two charities close to his heart.
'Links International' work to empower others around the world to achieve their own destiny, helping with Primary Health Care and Micro-enterprise Development. 'The Wire' is a charity local to the band, based in their home town of Littlehampton. It provides practical, creative and accessible activities for children, young people and families in the area.
"These two charities are great examples of people making a difference in the lives of those who need it" says Stew.
